5a) Tell me about a musical event that you have experienced-either as a musician or an observer.
-Describe the highlight, or the most interesting part, if the event
-Do you think the various people involve in the event enjoyed it?

I participated in chingay before. I play the saxophone and it was an exciting moment as I felt tensed, as there was a lot of people and school participate. At first, everyone was very nervous. We needed to memories the marching steps. The band had a great time performing. However, when the performance started, everyone put on their best performance. Everyone enjoyed themselves and put in a lot of effort.

Yes, I do think that the audience there did enjoy the performance. Most of the audiences were cheering for our school band. I would see that they were smiling with glee. After the excellent performance, some of them praised our school band for such a enjoyable performance.

5b) Why do you think music is such an important part of many people lives?
-How does music play a positive role in your life?
-Can you think of any occasion when music might cause problem?

Music help people to relax their mind either whenever they are stressed. Music as a source of entertainment and even in learning etc. Music used in many ways can even make learning easier and interesting . Music is part of our life, without it , life will be empty and boring. When we are angry, we can listen to angry music, when we feel stress, we can listen to classical sentimental music.

During ‘Hungry Ghost Festival’, there are many stage performance located near flats. This stage performance purpose is to sever those wandering ghost during this period of time as Chinese superstitious believe that during this period of lunar july, the hell gate open and allow ghosts to wander around at moral world. As a result, it causes a lot of noise pollution which leads to disturbance of peace of the residents, those residents will get frustrated and are unable to sleep.

Lets Discuss

1a) Tell me about a hobby or pastime that you enjoy or would like to take up.
? Is your hobby home-based or does it involve visiting places?
? Do you prefer pastimes that involve activity or exercise? What other activities do you enjoy?

1b) Describe the last time you achieved something in your life. How did you feel?
?What is your opinion of people who appear to be successful with very little effort?
?What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of encouraging success?

1a) Surf the net and it was home-based. Reason is that we can learn something from the net such as education, learning information, recipe and many more. In other word, we can gain something from it. We should feel stimulated that we have the IT for us to learn from the web. This may help us in scoring high mark in examination.

Reading book is another of my hobby as we can learn good vocabulary and phrases that may help us doing composition in school. We also able to speak good English.

Listening to music, it can help us relax at the same time from the hard work we have doe in school or office for the whole day. It may able to reduce tension.

I prefer pastimes that involve exercise. Reason is that, we can help ourselves to make our body healthy and fit. When we are healthy and fit, we will be feeling elated and not mournful. During exercise, we also can reduce our body weight that can make us more pretty or handsome. Exercises make us lose weight for free rather than need to pay expensive bill for the slimming lesson or pill.

Other activities that I enjoy are that, hiking and camping in the forest. From there, we can relax ourselves from the hustle and bustle city. We able to observe different kind of trees in the forest and animals. We can learn to make ourselves independence. With friends, we able to work as teamwork and can know how important teamwork is, during camping. At the same time, we can feel the peace during the night time looking at the shining stars brightening the night sky. After the activity, we may feel refreshed.

1b) We passed our GCE N Level with flying colours. Our facial expressions were contorted to odd mixture of emotions. We felt elated, exhilarated and motivated at the same time. We were able to proceed on to the next level of secondary education which was secondary five. We were then motivated to work and strive harder to achieve the best in life.

Endurance and perseverance are the keys to success. To be able to succeed in everything we do, we must be able to discipline ourselves to work harder. As hardworking is the basic ingredient to success.

People who succeed with little efforts, they may be just plain lucky to score well or they are born to be intelligent. They mike not be doing their homework or doing revision everyday, but they way be attentive in class and this help them easily absorb all the teachings into their brain.

An advantage of encouraging success makes you want to work harder and motivates you to look at the bright side of life. Make people become stronger when have to face with hurdles. Great determinations will developed when people wanted to succeed.

Disadvantages of success will make people jealous, envy or even pressurize. When people wanted so badly to excel, they may use all kind of cunning ways to excel even to the extend of spoiling others reputation or betraying your friend.

Lower Secondary Boys And Girls Are a Bunch Of Spoiled Brats

Forum2
During one of the morning assemblies, Mr Raj talked about pride. He kept reiterating and emphasizing the definition of school pride and the pride we had in ourselves. Now the question is, do West Spring students have school pride? Are West Spring students proud of themselves and themselves?

After five years being part of the West Spring clan, I am proud to stand up and say that I have the West Spring blood in me. And I sincerely believe that the seniors in the clan, comprising of Secondary 4 and 5, have school pride within them. This can be seen in the past week morning assemblies when the seniors said out the school cheer enthusiastically with full of gusto and zest. Unfortunately, in my opinion, I strongly believe that the lower secondary batch, comprising of the Secondary 1,2 and 3, sadly lacking pride for themselves and also, the school, and last Saturday event at the National Stadium showed it all.

Last Saturday, our school Military Band participated in the biannual SYF (Singapore Youth Festival) Band Display Competition. It was a high key event and the entire junior batch of the West Spring family went down to the National Stadium to show their support for the Military band. The ambience of the place was radiating with school pride and zeal as other schools showed their support by cheering out loud for their band and running around the stadium with their school flag. The school, which sat next to, our school even brought kompangs. Then I thought that maybe our would be like that to, uniting as one and going all out to support our band, just like the past two years when we screamed our lungs out just for our band. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Generally, our cheers were weak and it was apparent that the junior batch was not a zealous supporter of our school band. From my observation, the only things that the juniors were good and enthusiastic at were, insulting and jeering at other schools?band performances and supporters, shouting vulgarities and other negative things which I am too embarrassed to state it down.

I encountered one perfect example of such group of students and they are the bunch of secondary 2 normal academic Chinese girls who sat in front of me throughout the whole event. That group of young adolescents was unruly, insolent and inconsiderate. In other words, they have no pride in themselves and brought a bad image to the school. The girls talked loudly, insulting and jeering at other schools?band performance and supporters?who ran past us with their school flag. I was flabbergasted with their actions and commented loudly that they act like a bunch of sore losers who did not have a sense of sportsmanship instilled in them. Instead of changing their childish behavior, they continued making remarks about other schools. Then, when our school result was about to be announced, those idiotic girls screamed their lungs out. As a result, the rest of us were left dumbfounded, not knowing the results due to the girls?hysterical screams. By then, my face turned livid. The girls did not realize that my irritation towards them had mounted to quivering indignation. I pointed out loudly and sputtered angrily that they had screamed at the wrong time and cant they use their brains for once. One of the girls turned and glared at me. She should not blame me for my harsh and acerbic tone because she and her friends had committed a grave mistake this time. After the ceremony ended, all of us stood up and started heading to the carpark to board the buses. I spotted a can of potato chips left behind at the bench. I recalled that one of the girls eating from the same can of potato chips. I called and asked them to pick up their litter. Then, out of anger, I added that they only knew how to eat but did not know how to dispose their litter. One of the girls was hostile to comments and tends to substitute real speech with vulgarities. She incessantly spewing invectives at me and I was taken aback.

I regret that the other schools had to witness the negative attitude of West Spring students. I fear that these schools will have a negative perception of West Spring Secondary just because of the lower secondary batch conduct at the National Stadium.

Usage Of Life

FORUM
The mantra of the day is why , why and why?
Student on th 6th storey question the teachers and principal. It is exhausting for the student every morning, with their heavy bags and half - close eyes, they drag themseleves up the stairs to go to their respective classes.

For lessons like P.e , D&T , Art classes have to go down through the stairs for their classes and have to climb up again whenever their lessons have end. By the time , the reach their classes, They are 'Half-Dead'. What students think that their most important period, Recess. The duration for the recess is 30mins. It takes about 5 to 8 mins to go down , 10mins to queue up , 10 min to eat and 5 to 8 mins to go back their classroom. Sometimes, students come late to class after recess because of the stairs. They tend to get tired due to the climbing of stairs.

To sum this up, I would like to pose a question. Why can't the Sec5 have this priviledge to take the lift?

All the walkathon money we contributed for 5 years in building this school and facilities.
Why can't we use the facilities that we contributed?

Thank You,

Health Issue

1) Don't oversleep
Sleeping too much can reduce life expectancy, according to a February 2002 study in the Archives of General Psychiatry. The study found that people who sleep more than eight hours per night had a significantly higher death rate than normal. But late-night-party-goers shouldn't rejoice: researches say that sleeping less than four hours also increases death rates. People who sleep between six and seven hours per night were shown to live the longest.

2)Be optimistic.
Optimistic people had a 50% decreased risk of early death compared with those who leaned more toward pessimism. Those with a positive outlook on life are probably less stressed, better equipped to deal with adversity and, consequently, healthier. Optimists also tend to have lower blood pressure than pessimists, which, again, is most likely related to how positive thinkers respond to stress.

3)Have more sex
Sex helps keep us healthy, and thus increases longevity. But according to researchers, it's not necessarily an actual biological response generated by sex that makes us live longer. What's more likely is that having intimate sex means you are less stressed, happier and better rested--all factors that can lower blood pressure and protect against stroke and heart disease and decreased risk of total prostate cancer.

4)Have a pet
People who own pets, especially dogs, have been shown to be less stressed and require fewer visits to their physicians than non-owners. Survival rates for heart attack victims who had a pet have been shown to be 12% longer than for those who did not have one, according to one of the first studies dealing with the impact pets can have on our health.. Pet owners have also been shown to have lower blood pressure. The reasons for these findings are most likely related to an array of psychological factors, such as the facts that owning a pet decreases loneliness and depression, encourages laughter and nurturing, and stimulates exercise.

Book!!!

Title: The Chinese Cinderella
Author: Adeline yen man
Genre: Personal recount

The Chinese Cinderella is a story of depravity and cruelty. It depicts and portrays a life of an unwanted and deprived young girl called Adeline who longed for her fathers and sibling's lore and attention. Unfortunately, the child Adeline, had to go through a miserable childhood, and put up with the tyranny of her stepmother and the cruelty of her siblings. All these due to the hatred her family had towards her. The primal reason for this hatred was that Adeline's biological mother died shortly after giving birth to Adeline. As a result, her family despised her and regarded or considered her as a jinx. In Chinese Cinderella, the author reiterates her life story, which is beset with perils. This book also highlights Adeline's struggle for acceptance and lore from her own flesh and blood and how she overcame the odds to prove her worth.

My Opinion:
Adeline's the Chinese Cinderella is a litany of grievances and hardships that she had to put with when she was a young girl. The vivid description of the deprecations, pranks and tortures from the family has managed to touch my heart. It had me breaking down to tears as the author narrated on how humiliated she was when her idiotic stepmother slapped, kicked and admonished her in front of her classmates. Thus, I give this book two thumbs up.

What I've learnt?
The message that is conveyed in this book is that endurance and perseverance are the keys to success. Adeline did not give up even though her stepmother tortured her.Her siblings played cruel pranks on her. Adeline endured and persevered despite all the treatment and discrimination against her. Her motto in life is '' Stick to your goal despite hundred setback''. In the end, she proved to her father that she deserved to study in Oxford University and today, she is a Physician. Her patience finally paid off and now, she is a successful lady.
